Chronic Pain Management Course

 

Dear colleagues,

 

The Malta Association of Occupational Therapists is organizing a 2 day course on Chronic Pain Management. The course facilitator is Ms. Pip Higman a German OT who provides such training courses around Europe. She has over 30 years of professional experience in Occupational Therapy and her personal link is www.higman.de. The course shall be delivered in English.

 

This course is open for Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists. Places to attend this course are limited. The course content is applicable to Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists who work in physical or mental health settings. This is because chronic pain often presents therapists with a big challenge as its very nature makes pain relief to be very difficult if not impossible, and the clients often have a long history of suffering possibly both physically and psychologically.

 

An overview of the course content is found below:

 

·        Theoretical background of Chronic Pain

·        Pain Behaviour

·        General Theories about intervention with Chronic Pain

·        Assessment of Pain

·        Intervention methods

·       Management of pain in specific groups of people – geriatric and dementia; paediatrics; psychiatric and oncology

·        Case Studies

 

The price for the course and course notes, buffet lunches for both days, and costs of facilitator is: members: € 100; non- members: € 150; and students: € 90

 

In order to secure a place on this course, prospective participants are requested to complete the attached application form and send it with at least a € 50 deposit to the Malta Association of Occupational Therapists by the 30th of July, 2010.
