Affiliations 

Background

The W.F.O.T. was founded in 1952 with the first council meeting and the first world congress being held both in 1954 in Edinburgh (UK). Until today the federation organizes these events with great success.

Committees

The W.F.O.T. has various committees, one of which is the executive committee. It is formed by the World Health Organization and other (non-governmental) international health organizations. This meets every year and every two years with the other committees. (W.F.O.T. Council).

W.F.O.T. Foundation Fund

The W.F.O.T. Foundation Fund provides opportunities for occupational therapists to extend their knowledge, gain specialized skills and mature professionally through study and research.

Organisation Membership

A country which has an Occupational Therapy Association with an approved constitution and educational programme may become a full member of W.F.O.T. For many years, the migration of Therapists has been made possible by the recognition that they graduated from a W.F.O.T.- approved school. Currently the W.F.O.T has 55 member associations.

Associate Membership

A country with an approved constitution can become an associate member of W.F.O.T.

Individual Membership

Individual World Federation (W.F.O.T.) Membership can be obtained through their national organisations. Qualified occupational therapists can become individual members of the W.F.O.T. and receive the W.F.O.T. Bulletin.

Background

The Council for Occupational Therapists of the European Countries (C.O.T.E.C.) was founded in 1986 to co-ordinate the views of the national associations of the occupational therapy of the then member states of the European communities. The current membership of C.O.T.E.C. consists of representatives from 17 national associations of occupational therapists. The national associations of a number of the other European communities have observer status. The community meets in plenary session twice a year to plan and co- ordinate the ongoing work of the committee. These meetings are held in different European countries.

Aim

The aim is to enable occupational therapists of all European countries to develop harmonise and promote standards of professional practice and education of occupational therapist’s and to advance the science and art of OT throughout Europe. Contributing membership of C.O.T.E.C. is available to persons and institutions interested in the advancement of Occupational Therapy.  

Full Membership 

Full membership of C.O.T.E.C. is open to national associations of occupational therapy whose countries are members of the European Economic Area (EEA) and to the national association of the other European countries who are members of the W.F.O.T.
